Sophia Choi will present a free program on healthy foods at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kealakekua Public Library.
Choi is a surgical researcher and recipe inventor who has successfully created diets that help prevent and control diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer using simple recipes and locally available produce.

Free active shooter seminar planned
Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union will present the seminar, “Active Shooter: Protecting Yourself and Things to Know,” from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday in the in the John Y. Iwane Credit Union Center Training Room at its Kaloko facility, 73-5611 Olowalu St.
Conducted by Lt. Thomas Shopay, Commander and Sgt. Greg Yamada, both of the Special Response Team of the Hawaii Police Department, the free seminar will help individuals increase their survivability should they encounter an active shooter or other type of active violent situation.

Soroptimist International of Kona is selling Sees candy for the holidays. Monies raised will fund scholarships.
